Lake George recap

It was an interesting weekend in Lake George. I think I played a little bit better than I have been recently. It seemed like, with the exception of maybe two games, I really had to fight through a lot. I fell into a few traps but finished strongly, and it was pretty satisfying for me in the end. I'm waiting for the official results to be submitted; I'm right around 1750 again.

^ - 203-point triple-triple, which totally saved my tournament.
^^ - I had a better spot for NUMBLeS, but I didn't know the word! So bad! I mean, when one becomes sufficiently drunkles, one becomes NUMBLES! Of course!

I think Essex will be my next tourney, and since it is my birthday weekend, y'all should come and celebrate. :)

Since it seems that people are chiming in regardless of culinary skill, I might as well, right? I have a chicken meatloaf in the oven, taking a recipe from my aunt via my mom. There may be a picture going up later... I dunno. I have a feeling that at least nagekinoki is curious.

1 pound ground chicken
1 10.5 ounce can of Campbell's Vegetarian Vegetable soup
plain bread crumbs (for binding; I tend to eyeball this)
french fried onions to taste (optional; I use a few tablespoons' worth from a can)

I've also added a bit of salt, pepper and ketchup for flavor, and hopefully color. My mom's finished product is usually a shade of red on the outside; mine tends to come out more orangish.

The cooking part is pretty easy: preheat oven to 350 F, spray loaf or casserole pan with cooking spray, combine ingredients in bowl, transfer to pan, shape into loaf, cook for 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes. I can usually get three meals out of it, though my parents usually finish one between the two of them.

Just looking at a few games, I know I'm being pretty efficient. I want to correct two things that I saw: the occasional vision fail (can they just be corrected by taking more time?) and endgame play. Sometimes I can see what I should have done after the fact, and I'd like to actually have these thoughts come during the games, rather than after. Any suggestions?

Fix da Maine problem?

I realize I wasted a lot of good fortune early this weekend. I drew 31 out of 40 blanks. If I had played just a little bit better early on, maybe I finish the round robin 10-4 or 11-3 instead of 6-8, but I'm not complaining. (rafij52, teach me how to start strong at multi-day tournaments!) I was able to learn from my mistakes, and was also happy to recover and, without even expecting it, fall just short of 1750. I guess in the second half of the tournament, I fixed da Maine problem??

Congrats to the LJers who swept the top 5, and thanks to you all for the company, which was nice as always. Perhaps I will go into more detail in another post, but the highlight for me was being on Court 11 to watch Shahar Peer wax Carla Suarez Navarro. Now I'm in Portland for the Maine Event. It's a shame it doesn't pay like the Main Event of the WSOP... Oh well. I'm a bit sunburnt and chilling, and I think I may start chanting "Shahar! Shahar! Shahar!" at certain points during the event. Here goes nothing.

It would have been nice to see at least someone comment on the potential global impact that might follow a Yang victory. Let's see if some of those pop up in the next 24 hours, or if the gut reaction will be "Tiger choked."

I'm glad I finished well. I had a few nice wins, and to be in the middle of Div 1 playing mostly Div 1 opponents was a bit refreshing. I realize that I made a lot of mistakes over the tournament that I can work on trying to avoid, and will also hopefully not go through something like day 2, when my brain seemed to vanish midday. I was glad to have some different opponents across the board, and also some familiar ones, and though I would have liked a little more variety, I'm not complaining.

I was really sad to leave. It was nice that some flights were delayed so I got to hang with some Scrabblers for a bit longer, but I wish I could see a bunch of you more often. Looking forward to the next adventure!

For me, Dayton just going to be about feeling in control during games, because when I feel like I don't have control, my game goes to pot. If I can be in control, I'm going to do well. And I also think that giving out as many huggles as I can will also help, so be prepared if you're coming.

BTW, is anyone planning on getting in at around 5:30 PM tomorrow?
So I got back from club about 15 minutes ago. I had an interesting rules issue come up. In Round 2, my opponent and I both had one second, so we drew to determine who would play first. I drew an O, and my opponent proceeded to OVERDRAW, pulling two tiles out of the bag. We redrew and I got to go first, but I'm curious if the overdraw procedure should have been applied.

This is a fickle game. It's funny how a few months of enduring can all get washed away by one seven game tournament. I was quite the luckbox, in sharp contrast to a lot of recent tournaments, and even when the tiles were bad, I just played through. I'm going to try not to moan about bad tournaments as much... at least not until the next tournament at which I draw poorly. ;)

Now I get to wait for the ratings fairy to come. I'm looking at 1723 heading into Nationals. I know it's not as glamorous as it is for those of you looking at 1900s, but just give me time.

Because someone who shall remain nameless has been besmirching their good name, without further ado, I give you...
