*facepalm* of the Night
A few weeks ago, someone in my club tried playing SAUTEERS* (as in ones who SAUTE) against me and I challenged it off. Tonight, this person played it again, on another opponent, and when the word was challenged, I immediately said, "You tried that against me a few weeks ago!" Of course, the OWL didn't change between now and then, and SAUTEERS* came off.

I do that all the time. It's just usually 6-12 months before I forget the nonword is a nonword.

This happened at our club, too. The player in question was over 1700, and the phony in question was a top-1k seven. I will say no more.

It is more hilarious than faxer*, which I [still gasping] let go at my first ever tournament.

You devil. I may be old but I'm not that old!

No, seriously! I'm pretty sure that FAX was not valid in the old OSPD1 I used in my pre-tournament Scrabble days. I'm not sure when OSPD2 came out. I know the OSPD3 was released not much before my first tournament in 1999, but you were playing for several years before that...

I wouldn't be surprised if that person remembered having played the word, but just not the outcome of the challenge. I've done that, although in my defense it was probably a lot longer than just a few weeks in between the incidents...
